Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler was among the guest vocalists Friday night at the Roxy in L.A., jamming songs with all-star band, Camp Freddy.

Vocalists Juliette Lewis, Corey Taylor (Slipknot, Stone Sour), Slim Jim Phantom (Stray Cats) and Franky Perez (Carnival Of Dogs) were on hand for the jam, but it was up to Tyler to close out the evening.

Tyler joined CF for four tracks, kicking off by playing drums on the surf-rock classic, “Wipeout.” Mick Fleetwood popped behind the drum kit next as Tyler moved to center stage for the Fleetwood Mac track, “Rattlesnake Shake.” Then, Tyler and band jammed the Aerosmith classic, “Sweet Emotion,” before closing out the show with Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love.”

Minnesota’s Metrodome caves in under heavy snow. Or was is just Rick James either doing lines or blowing his nose in heaven?

U2’s first show in Brisbane, on Wednesday, was full of tributes to the late John Lennon on the 30th anniversary of his passing.

The evening kicked off with “Beautiful Day,” which featured Bono singing a snippet of “In My Life.”

“Mysterious Ways” featured a snippet of “Rain” by The Beatles.

“I remember watching John Lennon sing that song for his son Julian,” recalled Bono after the band had slipped in a few bars of “Stand By Me” at the end of “Still Haven’t Found.” “Today seems like a perfect day to do that for John Lennon and his family.”

“This next song is about an idea the great John Lennon whispered in our ears as four teenagers on the North Side of Dublin,” Bono said, before performing “Pride” later in the main set. No video on it, yet.

The encore started with “One,” which was tagged with a snippet of The Beatles’ “Dear Prudence.” Video of this hasn’t surfaced yet, unfortunately. “Dear Prudence” led into “Streets,” which featured some of “All You Need Is Love,” and at the end of the night, Bono added: “Goodnight Brisbane, Goodnight John Lennon.”

John Lennon said he didn’t want to be a “dead hero” in his last print interview – recorded just three days before he was shot dead 30 years ago today.

The ex-Beatle spoke to Rolling Stone journalist Jonathan Cott on December 5, 1980, and although excerpts of the conversation have been released in the past, it’s the first time the entire interview has been published.

Lennon, who was 40 when he died, talked about stardom and being a father, while saying he had “plenty of time” to achieve his ambitions.

He told Cott: “Critics only like people when they’re on their way up – I can’t be on the way up again. What they want is dead heroes like Sid Vicious and James Dean.

“I have no interest in being a dead fucking hero – so forget them.”

Despite being seen as the icon of a generation, Lennon said he was just doing his job: “I’ve never claimed purity of soul. I’ve never claimed to have the answers to life. I only put out songs and answer questions as honestly as I can. But I still believe in peace, love and understanding.”

Discussing other artists he said: “I’ve selected to work with only two people: Paul McCartney and Yoko Ono. That ain’t bad picking.”

Cott only discovered the original three-hour recording a few months ago. “It was a miracle the tape hadn’t degraded after 30 years,” he says. “All of a sudden this guy’s voice, totally alive, made me feel so inspired that I felt I should transcribe the whole thing.

“He felt like he was in the middle of his journey. It was like a mid-life meditation – I was struck by that.”

On the 30th anniversary of her husband’s death Ono says: “Please join me in remembering John with deep love and respect. The world was lucky to have known him. We still learn from him today. John, I love you.”

The full interview is in the current edition of Rolling Stone magazine.   Hear Lennon’s Final Interview EVER tonight at 10 pm on Bayou 95.7…get all the details, and a behind the scenes look at the interview here.

Tomorrow (Wednesday, 12/08) marks the 30th Anniversary of John Lennon’s death. John will be all over radio, television, newspapers, magazines, and the ‘net, (insert a blatant plug for Bayou 95.7’s radio special “Lennon: The Final Interview”, Wednesday night a 10:00pm” here) as the world celebrates his life and music.

Ever wonder what his life and career would have been like if the incident of 12/08/1980 had never happened?

Here’s a link to a great article that asks that very question:

Before you get your panties in a wad…he didn’t join the band on a permanent basis.   Just for a couple of songs. I know, I for one, if I were in a cover band, would soil my shorts if Brian Johnson stepped up on stage to sing a couple of AC/DC tunes.  But, apparently, this isn’t the first time Johnson has played with the Greg Billings Band…he’s a friend of band leader Greg Billings, and actually guest starred on their “Do-overs” album a few years ago.

Here he is, onstage at the Irish Rover Pub in Sarasota, Florida:
